Moving to Dubai? A water-filter checklist for new arrivals

TL;DR
In your first Dubai month: (1) test your tap, don't assume; (2) don't sign a 12-month bottled-water contract; (3) get a shower filter before a kitchen filter if you're short on time; (4) book the free water test.

You've just moved to Dubai and everyone's told you the tap water isn't safe. What they haven't told you is how variable it actually is — some buildings produce near-bottled quality, others deliver water you can taste from the second sip. Here's what to do in order.

Week 1: Test, don't guess

Before you sign up for a AED 400/month bottled-delivery contract, measure your actual tap quality. A handheld TDS meter from Noon costs AED 40 and gives you an instant reading. Under 250 mg/L: you're fine with a basic carbon filter. 250–500: a 3-stage is plenty. Above 500: consider a 7-stage RO.

Or book our free 15-minute home test — calibrated TDS + chlorine + pH, printed report you keep. If your numbers are fine we'll tell you.

Week 2: Short-term options

Bottled-delivery subscription contracts are usually month-to-month with no cancellation penalty. If you're stocked up on bottled water on day one, that's fine — just don't commit to a 6 or 12 month plan until you've tested your tap.

A shower filter is a cheap, high-impact first move. AED 100–500 at mall retail. Your skin and hair notice within 2 weeks, and you don't need to wait for landlord clarity on under-sink installs.

Week 3–4: Permanent setup

If your TDS tested above 350 and you're signed up for a year+, install a full 7-stage RO. AED 1,199 one-time, same-day install. Pays for itself against bottled delivery in about 2 months.

If you're renting and worried about landlord permission: you don't need it. The system connects to existing plumbing, we uninstall it when you move. No structural work required.

If you're flipping short-term (3-month assignment, for example), bottled makes more sense than installing.
